The Iron King

 Hello, my loves!

It's time for another book post!

The Iron King is the first book in the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa.

In this first book, we are introduced to our main character, Meghan Chase, a poor girl who lives in a swamp and on the cusp of her sixteenth birthday (well that can't be good).

In the beginning, Meghan fills us in on the news of her biological father who suddenly disappeared when she was six and they have no idea where he is and flashes forward to the present her, a girl from a not-so-well-off family who had dreams of working in IT and within the first few pages are introduced to many characters such as her mother, stepdad and stepbrother Ethan, who she adores. We're also introduced to her best friend Robbie, who affectionately calls her princess.

Meghan's life changes when her brother is swapped with a changeling and Robbie isn't just some regular guy, he's Puck, the character from A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Together, they travel to the fairy world where she finds out that she too is a part of this world.

With Puck and an array of other characters, travel through the veil of magic and reality to face off against an opponent that threatens the Fey.

While I did enjoy the book and there were parts that left you on a bit of a cliffhanger and the main point of the plot seeming slightly original, one could not ignore how much of the story comes from actual folklore and in a way lack some sort of imagination. I'm still going to read the other books because I would like to know what happens.

I'm giving this book 3.5 beers
